The Greatest Story Ever Told

"Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing bad things. But for good people to do bad things, it takes religion." - Steven Weinberg

Imagine No Religion

When I first started this website I really didn't want to talk about religion that much. I wanted this site to have nothing but positive things in it and help people personally and spiritually grow. But the more I began writing and thinking about everything the more and more I knew that religion had to be one of my main focus points. The reason for this is that religion is detrimental to humanity and inhibits any type of growth. As long as religion exists, peace will not exist.

The problem is that most of us choose to ignore it and try to forget it. But no matter what, it is a problem that just keeps coming back and can only be fixed if we can get past the religious dogma in this world. Once every one can agree that they don't have all the answers and that maybe, just maybe, every thing they have been told might be a lie, that is when humanity will reach the next level and excel farther ahead then we have ever imagined.

Now I know that most of the religious fanatics have and will interpret and filter every word I say through their belief system and are probably to ignorant and stubborn to even listen to what I say. Yes, you might read this entire article, but will you really listen to it or just let it go in one ear and out the other already knowing before you even consider what I have to say, that I am wrong. Well I ask you that when you read this, try to just push all your beliefs and everything you know aside for a minute and actually listen. Just remember that my goal here is not to change your beliefs or anything like that. All I want is people in this world to just start asking questions and start thinking instead of living life like robots.

Every single person in this world has a different view of what God is and what their religion is. I don't think that any two people in this world that are religious can absolutely agree on every single aspect about their religion. There are so many contradictions just inside of one religion that it is mind boggling. Did you know that there are over 2,000 different interpretations of just the bible alone. I believe that the reason for this is that they all know that something is wrong and something is missing but they just can't figure it out so they start a new belief system about the bible hoping that they can fill in that void that religion gives them.

So now from this one book called the bible there has spawned so many "types" of religions and beliefs. Now there really can only be one truth. That means that the chances of you having it all figured out and having the right religion and belief with all the religions in the world is greater than 1 in 3000. This means that you have a 0.00033% chance of actually being right if any of them are even right. Now I know exactly what your already thinking. Well I know that I know that I know without a shadow of a doubt that I am 100% right and every one else is wrong. Well guess what, every single person out there thinks that exact same thing. So strongly that they will die for what they believe in.

So with all these different beliefs and all of these different views about what God is and what religion is, with everyone believing different things, what has all of this created? War, death, pain, suffering, misery, torment, fear, anxiety, and pretty much hell on earth. How are all of these things justifiable? That's right, all through religion. Did you know that early religions were widely used to help unify the populations to fight wars. It was along the lines of my God is better than your God. You can still see it in use today. By taking away your ability to question, they are effectively gaining control over you. Now if religion is not the most effective way to control people and get them to do whatever you want then I don't know what is. People do the most evil things in this world and they think that there is nothing wrong with it because that is what their God or what their religion wants and tells them to do.

There has been more wars, deaths, and pain than is imaginable all in the name of God. Almost every war, if not every war, in the past has all been created because of or has spawned off of religion. Think of Adolf Hitler. He was born and raised as a Christian and he believed that he was doing God's work by killing all of the Jews because they didn't believe in Jesus Christ. You might say to yourself, "Well we all know that he was crazy and a man of Satan not a man of God." Well how do you think that a crazy Satanist got most of Germany to follow him? Because he had convinced every one else that he was doing God's work and they all believed him. Even the Catholic church had supported Hitler and thought he was doing the right thing.

There are people out there today that are killing themselves with bombs and killing other people along with them because they were brought up to believe a certain religion that tells them they are doing God's work and when they die they will be blessed in the after life. Most of us hear about these things and don't think anything of it because we just think that those people are crazy. Well guess what? Those kids and men out there blowing each other up are human beings just like you and me. They are no different then your dad or your son, your best friend or your entire family. The only thing that separates you from them is that you were raised in a different way. Those suicide bombers never questioned what truth was and accepted everything they heard as the truth because it was the only thing that they knew and they were told that if they didn't believe in it then they would die and go to hell forever. Sound familiar to anyone?

Now that we know what religion has created, lets think about why it was created. What has more power, control, authority, makes more money and can manipulate mass populations on a global level and get away with it all? That is right, religion, religion, and more religion. Think of the Pope and how much of an influence he has on the entire world. Think of the top leaders of all of the religions and how much power they have. Most importantly think of why people created a religion in the first place. God did not create religion, man has created religion for his own greed, selfishness, and most importantly, his fear of the unknown. Now through the years these false doctrines used to manipulate people have been accepted as truth.

When Jesus was preaching on this earth, who did he preach against? He didn't preach against the tax collectors or the sinners. He preached against all of the religious people. That is why he was hated by so many people and eventually put to death. He was challenging the religious leaders and the people that were self righteous thinking they knew everything about God, just like today. If Jesus came down today do you think that he would be happy with the Christians. No way! He came down here and taught us how to live a great life and grow personally and spiritually and talked down on religion. Everyone has turned him into this believe system or this institution for their own self interests, manipulating all his words and distorting the truth. Religion is the Devil that the bible speaks about. Here to steal, kill, and destroy mankind.

Like I said before though, I did not want this site to be about all of this negativity. So lets try to think of all the good things that religion has done. Hmmm.... Well that is a tough question to answer. If you stop and think about it, can you really think of anything that religion has done that is good. I can only think of a few things that people can even use to argue about what religion has done that is good. The first one would be that it has spread the word of God to people and built churches in other countries spreading the news about their Lord all over the world. So let me get this straight, the best thing that religion has done is told other people about their religion and manipulated people into believing what they believe. That doesn't really sound too great to me. Is there really anything great about spreading more purposeless religion. Some might say that it creates good moral people in this world that help other people. Well I don't really think that you need a "religion" to be a moral or good person. It looks like religion isn't getting any presents from Santa Clause this year, they are definitely on the naughty list.

It is time for us to wake up and acknowledge that we are all human beings. We are not superior to someone else just because we believe in a certain religion or have a certain faith. If we don't wake up soon we are going to destroy ourselves and fulfill the prophecy that the bible and other religions speaks about. It is time for us to put down our weapons and look at the person next to you and realize that we our all part of something much greater than ourselves and our own ignorant 2000 year old beliefs that someone told us about. It is time to start reaching out your hand and helping others around you so that we can grow and make progress in this world instead of destroying it. It's time for us to get rid of Religion.

I'm sure glad I'm not the only one who feels the same way. I'm raised a Bhuddist, and taught to be accepting, sharring, caring, not to discrimminate, etc..so idk.. But I'm still not religious. The way I see it. I'm not following it cuz I believe in the religion itself, but the reason of it. I'm not too sure how to explain and really wish to be able to...lol sorry, I'm short of vocabulary.

I am amazed that I am only the 2nd comment here...That article was fabulous! It couldn't be more accurate. Religion, Nationalism,Competition are the three evils from which our suffering comes. How did you get so smart?...no, really..how?

Great post Andrew. I agree with 100%. It's unfortunate that we can't gather everyone together and discuss the obvious logic, common sense and blatant scientific proof of your post. Religion thrives via human emotions, not from truth or fact. Miracles, personal enlightenments and other emotional experiences are attributed to 'God' by people as proof he exists. Of course these people are oblivious to the fact that other people all over the world have the same experiences and attribute it to their God or something else entirely.
