Do You Know What Exactly God Is?

"God is Consciousness that pervades the entire universe of the living and the non-living." - Ramakrishna

The age-old question of whether or not god exists is completely irrelevant. How can you argue and prove or disprove the existence of something if you don't know or can't even comprehend what exactly it is. The question that is much more important than the existence of God is what exactly is God. Once we are able to understand more about what God is we will begin to be able to understand the existence of god.

Now most religions have tried to answer this question but have failed tremendously. They have painted this image of this guy sitting in a big chair with a white beard and angels around him waiting to pass judgment on whoever doesn't believe in their religion. I will tell you that this is not what God is whatsoever. God is not some physical or spiritual being that we can even imagine. A loving compassionate God would never judge an imperfect being that he created and loves just because he is perfect and we are not and he definitely wouldn't judge people just based on their beliefs. Now because I don't believe God is some super natural being that we can send all our worries and fears to like religion says does that make me an atheist? From most religious perspectives you could say yes but from my perspective I would say no. My view of what "God" is, if you would even call it that, is just completely different then what most people view it as.

In order to understand what God is we first must understand how the perception of God-awareness came into existence in the first place. An evolution in consciousness, or you could say, self-awareness, was the first step and the key to understanding how God-awareness first started. Without self-awareness God would not exist in our reality whether he was real or not. So once humans became self-aware, did they truly find God or did they simply mislabel their perception of reality. Was it not "God" that humans detected but their own collective consciousness that they mislabeled as God?

If a single cell that is inside of your body became self-aware would it be able to understand what you are? Your brain will be able to understand that cell entirely but that single cell will never be able to understand what you are. To that cell you yourself would be God. Your body created that cell and your body is what keeps that cell alive. From the cells limited perspective of reality, there is nothing outside of your existence.

Just as that single cell, we cannot perceive exactly what God is due to our limited perspective of reality and our limited awareness. God is not some man upstairs looking down on all of us. God is nothing more than mislabeled term or a metaphor for our very own collective consciousness and our highest views and aspirations of it. In order to understand more of what God is we must become more consciously aware and expand our limited perception of reality. Unlike the cell, we are able to evolve and expand our conscious awareness. So therefore raising our level of consciousness is the only way that we will be begin to understand more of what God is. As long as we remain in a lower state of awareness we will only see what God is as far as our limited perspective allows us to.

Religion is nothing more than a manifestation of our self-awareness of God or our collective consciousness. Once our consciousness evolved we tried to label it and explain what it was. This created myths that circulated until it turned into a belief. Once people began to believe the myths it created religion. Throughout the years religion became nothing more than misinterpreted myths that became more distorted as time prevailed. Each faith split into new faiths and then they created doctrines for their false beliefs which spawned nothing more than arguments and wars with very little truth in any of them.

So if God is our highest aspirations and perspective of our collective consciousness, which is love, peace, growth and anything that is good then that means that the devil is the exact opposite of God which is our lowest perspective of consciousness which is hate, fear and evil. This is why it is easy to say that the devil tempts us. It's not some evil being out there tempting us and causing all this destruction. It's our very own lower state of consciousness that has a very limited perspective and is easily influenced and tempted by meaningless materialistic things. This is where we can also see how the fall of Satan from the beautiful angel Lucifer, is a metaphor for our very own fall of consciousness from God to the Devil. If we all strived to reach higher levels of consciousness then their would be no more wars, fear, and suffering. We would all be filled with love and peace and be with God so therefore the Devil could not exist.

Just as the cell is apart of us and in a way, is us, we are apart of God and a manifestation of God. We ourselves are God because we ourselves are part of the collective consciousness as a whole. The profound recognition that God is that singular energy and intelligence that initiated the creative process and is just now awakening to itself as we awaken to it is enlightenment in an evolutionary context. Every time you look at someone or look into a mirror you are seeing a part of God. Every time you take a breath you are feeling God. Every thing that you experience in this world you are experiencing God. Most of this world lives on a lower level of consciousness and therefore they can only view God as this separate being. Once we advance and reach higher levels of consciousness we will become one with God as the exact same being.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what you're describing is very similar to what Ralph Waldo Emerson called the Over-soul. "We live in succession, in division, in parts, in particles. Meantime within man is the soul of the whole; the wise silence; the universal beauty, to which every part and particle is equally related, the eternal ONE. And this deep power in which we exist and whose beatitude is all accessible to us, is not only self-sufficing and perfect in every hour, but the act of seeing and the thing seen, the seer and the spectacle, the subject and the object, are one. We see the world piece by piece, as the sun, the moon, the animal, the tree; but the whole, of which these are shining parts, is the soul." -The Over-soul

God is a metaphor for the unknown. It is a lazy term.
